Harry potter is no stranger to death

Disclaimer: This blog contains negative, and cynical attitudes. Consider yourself warned … (and I mean YOU!)

Ya know it pisses the hell out of me all these inspirational people who constantly speak and lecture about “fulfilling your dreams.” “Live passionately,” “Sieze the Day,” and of course my favorite, “Stop and smell the roses”

Well these are all great sentiments, but I really don’t need any reminders at how crappy my life is and how wonderful it can be. I have plenty to remind me that there is pain and suffering in the world and therefore we should appreciate that which we have.

We all know the famous line “stop and smell the roses” this line really ticks the hell out me. Whoever made up this line, is one mo fo in my book !! hehe not really, but I never understood this statement. What exactly am I stopping from to smell the roses? And is there a certain way to smell roses? And do I have to smell roses specifically, or can I stop and smell the lingering smell of dog poop that has infiltrated my yard? What exactly does this inspirational go – getter line really mean? Yeah yeah, I know what everyone says, it means to Sieze the Day. Ok, so right now im on the computer enjoying a Sunday afternoon – which means I am NOT seizing the day ? what do I have to do to actually seize the day ? Should I be getting up and streaking through town riling everyone to vote republican or democrat ? Or maybe seizing the day, means getting off your fat ass and going to the gym? But then the person whos at the gym should be seizing the day by spending more time with their kids? But then the person spending time with their kids should belive that he should be seizing the day and get thee to the gym! So it all really makes no effin sense to me this whole seizing of the day thing.

Yeah yeah I love these Oprah guests that come on and rave about how they are sick, or dying or lived through something scary and survived and then end up moving the entire audience to tears, with their inspirational story, and then everyone goes home (or in my case change the channel) with an extra feeling of inspiration in their lives, and maybe just maybe they’ll actually kiss their spouses good night. But lets be honest folks .. what about us normal people?! The normal people who have to get up every day and go to work (or school) and work their little tushes off just to pay the bills each month ? What about us little people who aren’t stopping to smell the roses because they just don’t have the time, or money?

Truth be told, I suppose we all can stop and smell the roses (which we have already decided makes absolutely no sense) I guess no matter how much money and time we have or don’t have, or how much poop really is littering in our backyard…. my point is, leave my alone with the inspirational bull crap. Harry Potter doesn’t need a reminder theres death and evil in the world … (imagine giving a lecture to Harry potter saying “you know Harry, I have seen the light… theres a light at the end of the tunnel…. Stop and smell the roses harry,… . if you think good it will be good.” – hell ya… that guy would be Avada Kedavra’d so fast he wouldn’t know what hit him!!! To hell with Oprah ! :) :)

I guess my point is that we all have trials and tribulations and all that good stuff… and I think each one of us has the power to realize the good and the inspirational, and the roses and yadda yadda yadda … just don’t come over to my house and tell me that dog poop smells like roses.

I guess I should be honored to leave the first comment on this post. Maybe they should change the quote to "Stop and comment on Dubys blog" instead of anything to do with roses. Listen, seizing the day is different for each person. I'm sure you don't need a PHD in Physics to know that. I know the point of this post is to be as negative and cynical as one possibly can (to which you know I am the biggest advocate :) ) but honestly, it all boils down to making each and every day, minute, and second you have count. Whatever that means to you- that means to you. If it means going to the gym, hanging with your kids, or even sleeping in then so be it. So much of our lives (or shall I just speak for myself and say MY life) is filled with "Let me just do this so i can move on and then I'll be happy" . School, work, marriage, etc. etc. the list goes on. True happiness comes from within. As far as people dying and inspiring others... I find it so sad how much of our short lives we waste with politics, power, greed, hate, money and the rest. Why is it that only once someone is dying does he realize and PUBLICIZE what's truly important in life? I guess that is the mission of the living. To stop and smell the ALLEGORICAL roses, to seize the day (seize verb. to take possession of ) - wouldn't you rather possess the day than have the day possess you??? and for sure LIVE PASSIONATELY!!! If you are passionate about something, let it be seen. Passion is beauty! To commence this posting I would like to throw a question out..."WHAT WOULD YOU ATTEMPT TO DO IF YOU KNEW YOU COULD NOT FAIL?"

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. Maybe I just like being an inspirational person, but I have to side with your first commenter.

Personally I think stop and smell the roses is an expression used by anti-go-getters that believe that if you just stop and smell the roses everything will be handed to you on a silver platter.

I like the sentiment of seize the day, but my favorite expression is "Embrace life".

To me, Embracing life involves appreciating the things in life that we do have while we have them because they won't always be there.

Well that is my two cents from my crackberry.

Thanks Duby!

P.S. Take a look at my blog (Alan T's West Quest)to see updates on my life. :)

Dubes you said exactly what I'm feeling right now, and you're a genius. And I don't know why but it's comforting to know that someone else is not blown away by the slightest gust of wind, and needs more like a twister to feel moved.
